Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian forces launched dozens of missiles and rockets at the southern city of Mykolaiv over the weekend, killing agriculture tycoon Oleksiy Vadaturskyi.

Vadaturskyi owns Nibulon, which exported more than 5.6 million tons of wheat, barley, corn, and other agriculture products to 38 countries last year.

His wife, Raisa, also died in the shelling, Zelenskyy said.

"It is exactly such people, such companies, our Ukrainian south that have guaranteed the world's food security. It has always been so. And it will be so again," Zelenskyy said on Sunday.

"The Russian terrorists should not even hope that they will be able to destroy the social and industrial potential of Ukraine and walk through the ruins."

Nibulon confirmed Vadaturskyi's death on Saturday, saying that the businessman stayed in his native Mykolaiv to help the city after Russia invaded earlier this year.

"The entire 7,000-strong team of the NIBULON company and all of Ukraine suffered an irreparable loss," the company said in a statement.

Both Russia and Ukraine supply the world with grain, raising the possibility of food insecurity caused by the war.

The countries came to an agreement last week to allow the safe passage of ships carrying grain out of southern Ukrainian ports. Zelenskyy said Friday that Ukraine is ready to release its first shipment of grain from the Odesa region.

The housing market in China has recorded a sharp drop-off in home sales throughout July as underlying economic troubles make themselves more apparent.

Sales dropped 39.7% in July from the same period last year, marking a roughly $77.6 billion – or 523.14 billion yuan – decline. Just from June to July saw a drop of 28.6%, which ended a two-month rally.

Apartment sales had increased in May and June over the previous months, but July largely blunted those gains, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"China's economy has been slowing for quite some time," Craig Singleton, a fellow at the nonpartisan Foundation for Defense of Democracies, previously told Fox News Digital. "What we're witnessing now is a rapid economic slowdown."

GEN. KELLOGG: IT'S TIME TO PUSH BACK ON CHINA

Singleton argues that while COVID-19 has played a part in the initial troubles, China’s recovery slowdown has resulted from "deeper structural, systemic problems."

"One of them happens to be … China's hyper leveraged property market by some conservative estimates," he explained. "China's property sector makes up 30% of Chinese GDP, so even small deviations in that market can have outsized impact on China's broader global domestic product and its broader growth."

CHINA ANNOUNCES LIVE-FIRE NAVAL EXERCISES AHEAD OF POSSIBLE PELOSI TAIWAN VISIT

The Chinese real estate market saw a sales boom driven by debt-funded building projects that sold homes before they were built. The lack of completed projects led to protests from angry would-be homebuyers who refused to pay their mortgages.

Hundreds of buyers from roughly 320 projects across the country as of July 29 have refused to pay their mortgages. Those prospective buyers have turned instead to buy second-hand homes or newly-built state-owned homes, which can come at a cheaper cost.

Even cutting interest rates and down payments or outright offering cash subsidies haven’t helped prompt enough activity to prop up the sagging housing market. Local authorities have considered offering full-on relief funds for cash-strapped developers.

"The sector won’t stabilize if developers’ liquidity crunch is not relieved," said Song Hongwei, a research director of Tongce Research Institute.

A drone-deployed explosive detonated at Russia's Black Sea Fleet headquarters, injuring six people, Russian officials announced Sunday.

The attack took place during Russian Navy Day celebrations in Sevastopol, a port city in Crimea that Russia annexed in 2014. The drone appeared to be homemade and the explosive device was relatively low yield. Sevastopol Mayor Mikhail Razvozhaev did not detail the severity of the wounds for the six reported injuries.

It is unclear who is responsible for the attack.

The attack came the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new Russian naval doctrine in St. Petersburg.

Putin stated that Russia intended to cement its status as a global maritime power and named the U.S. as its top global adversary.

The Russian leader also warned that Russian warships would soon be equipped with hypersonic weapons.

"The key thing here is the capability of the Russian navy," Putin said during a Sunday speech. "It is able to respond with lightning speed to all who decides to infringe on our sovereignty and freedom."

Putin's invasion of Ukraine will finish its fifth full month Sunday as fighting continues across eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ordered a mandatory evacuation of the Dontesk region as the area continues to suffer intense fighting.

"The more people leave [the] Donetsk region now, the fewer people the Russian army will have time to kill," Zelensky said Sunday.

"Many refuse to leave, but it still needs to be done," he said. "If you have the opportunity, please talk to those who still remain in the combat zones in Donbas. Please convince them that it is necessary to leave."

Boris Johnson has no real opportunities left to salvage his premiership despite an apparent effort to get his name back in the mix for party leadership, a politics expert told Fox News Digital.

"You can’t ever bet against Boris Johnson, but he’s run out of road on this particular episode of his career," Alan Mendoza, co-founder and executive director of The Henry Jackson Society, said. "He may well attempt to plot a return to high office in a maneuver familiar to Australian party leaders, but it will be from the back benches."

Johnson’s roughly three-year tenure as prime minister ended following the resignation of dozens of ministers who deemed his position "untenable."

Conservative ministers declared that they had lost confidence in the prime minister after news emerged he had elevated Chris Pincher to the powerful role of deputy chief whip despite allegations of sexual misconduct.

THATCHER'S LEGACY LOOMS LARGE IN RACE TO REPLACE BORIS JOHNSON AS BRITISH PRIME MINISTER

But 14,000 people signed a petition requesting that the party hold a vote on Johnson’s removal. The Conservative Party claimed it had not received the petition, and Tory Donor Peter Cruddas and former MEP David Campbell Bannerman – the authors of the petition – have said they will thoroughly check all signatories for membership numbers and verification of address.

Even if those numbers proved genuine, the total represents just a fraction of the roughly 200,000 members that make up the party, and the party has indicated it will ignore the petition entirely, The Guardian reported.

UK SPY CHIEF WARNS OF ‘NO LIMITS’ RUSSIA, CHINA PARTNERSHIP, BUT INSISTS WEST HAS ‘ADVANTAGES’

Johnson has regularly touted his ability to win elections, especially on the heels of securing the largest Conservative party majority in over 40 years. Mendoza argued that Johnson could still serve to help the party in a near-term general election, but that might be the extent of his involvement.

"His brand will remain strong if he can demonstrate continued star campaigning power, but there is no way to salvage his premiership right now so a period of enforced exile looms," Mendoza said.

BRITISH SPY CHIEF CRITICIZED CHINA'S SUPPORT OF RUSSIA

Johnson on July 20 gave his final "Prime Minister’s Questions" address to his colleagues and political opponents in Parliament. His statement made mention of his "successor, whoever he or she may be."

He highlighted the successes of his premiership, which included helping the country through the COVID-19 pandemic and assisting Ukraine during the early months of the Russian invasion.

"And frankly that’s enough to be going on with," he said, before thanking the members of Parliament.

Johnson served as one of the most vocal and ardent supporters of Ukraine during the invasion – so much so that another petition suggested giving him Ukrainian citizenship so he could become the country’s next prime minister.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new naval doctrine that targets the U.S. as Russia's top global adversary.

Putin signed the 55-page during an appearance in St. Petersburg to mark Russia's Navy Day. The Russian leader delivered a speech announcing Russia's plans to become a great maritime power, saying resisting the U.S. is a top goal.

"The strategic policy of the USA to dominate the world's oceans" threatens Russia, Putin said.

Putin's speech made no mention of his ongoing invasion of Ukraine, however.

Putin went on to claim that a number of warships will soon be equipped with hypersonic weapons.

"The key thing here is the capability of the Russian navy," Putin said. "It is able to respond with lightning speed to all who decides to infringe on our sovereignty and freedom."

Putin also noted the expansion of NATO as a top threat to Russia, months after Sweden and Finland officially joined the Western alliance. Finland shares an 800-mile border with Russia, significantly expanding potential friction points between NATO and Russia.

Putin's speech came on the same day as a drone attack at the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea fleet on Sunday. Russian officials say the attack, which saw a drone drop an unknown explosive device, injuring at least six people. It is unclear who is responsible for the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Saturday a mandatory evacuation for residents of the country's eastern Donetsk region amid intense fighting in the ongoing war with Russia.

The president said, "The more people leave [the] Donetsk region now, the fewer people the Russian army will have time to kill." He noted that those who do leave would be compensated.

Zelenskyy also said in his address that the hundreds of thousands of people still occupying combat zones in the larger Donbas region should leave as well. Donbas includes the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"Many refuse to leave, but it still needs to be done," he said. "If you have the opportunity, please talk to those who still remain in the combat zones in Donbas. Please convince them that it is necessary to leave."

RUSSIAN SPIES ‘EVERYWHERE’ IN UKRAINE

According to Ukrainian media, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said the evacuation had to take place prior to the start of winter because the region's natural gas supplies had been destroyed.

But former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst said the evacuation may have more to do with the anticipation of more fierce fighting instead of fuel shortages.

"I don’t know why Zelenskyy issued the call," he said. "What I do know is that there has been fierce fighting in Donetsk. The Russians took [neighboring] Luhansk [oblast] several weeks ago. I expect further fierce fighting in Donetsk."

The Ukrainian military claimed earlier on Saturday that more than 100 Russian soldiers were killed, and seven tanks were destroyed during fighting Friday in the Kherson region. The Kherson region is the center of Kyiv's counter-offensive in the south and a crucial part of Moscow's supply lines.

Ukraine's southern command said rail traffic to Kherson over the Dnipro River had been cut, which could further isolate the Russian military west of the river from reaching supplies in Crimea and the east.

Long-range missile systems supplied by the West have been used by Ukraine to impose damage on three bridges across the Dnipro River in recent weeks, cutting off the Kherson region.

"As a result of fire establishing control over the main transport links in occupied territory, it has been established that traffic over the rail bridge crossing the Dnipro is not possible," Ukraine's southern command said in a statement.

Hong Kong officials said Friday they would open an investigation into a concert accident where a giant LED video screen fell down onto the stage and injured two dancers.

Video clips from the Cantopop group Mirror concert Thursday night show a massive LED screen suspended above the stage crashing down, directly landing on one dancer before toppling over onto another as audience members scream in horror.

The injured performers were immediately sent to the Queen Elizabeth hospital.

"One of the injured is staying in the intensive care unit in serious condition and underwent an operation [Friday]. Accompanied by his family, the other injured person in stable condition was discharged this afternoon," the Hospital Authority said in a statement.

Local media reported that Chang Tsz-fung, 29, was released from hospital, while Mo Lee Kai-yin, 27, remained in the hospital in serious condition.

Kai-yin dislocated the third and fourth sections of his cervical vertebrae, leaving him unable to move. Doctors were able to stabilize him after an overnight procedure and surgery.

TAYLOR SWIFT RESPONDS TO CRITICS AFTER JET TOPS WORST PRIVATE PLANE CO2 EMISSIONS LISTS: ‘LOANED OUT’ TO OTHERS

Authorities found that one of the two metal cords holding up the screen had snapped during the concert. An investigation is currently underway as experts attempt to figure out what exactly caused the suspension wires to fail.

The concert’s various contractors, including Engineering Impact and Hip Hing Loong, will be participating in the investigation with authorities.

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung told reporters Friday the government was "very concerned" about the incident and that an investigation would be conducted, likely over several weeks.

"We will do research to find out whether (the steel cable broke) due to an operational or material problem. It cannot currently be concluded at this stage," said Yeung, adding that the incident will affect "all future performances."

Authorities will also try to determine if any safety improvements are needed at other venues for upcoming performances to minimize the chances of such an incident occurring again, Yeung said.

Officers from the Labour Department have collected evidence from the venue and will work to determine who is responsible for the incident, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said.

He said all activity under the remaining suspended screens at the venue will be halted, and organizers will work with government officials to determine how best to remove the suspended screens safely.

Hong Kong leader John Lee said Friday that authorities will "comprehensively investigate the incident" and review safety requirements for future performances, according to a government statement.

He also said the government would help family members of one of the injured dancers be able to travel from Canada to Hong Kong to see him.

Concert organizer MakerVille said in a statement it was "deeply saddened" over the injuries of two performers and that it would work with authorities in the probe.

"If we find anything suspicious, or if any person or unit is involved in misconduct, we will immediately report it to the police," the statement read.

The concert on Thursday was the fourth of 12 scheduled concerts by Mirror, with tens of thousands of fans having bought tickets.

The remaining eight shows have been canceled, but concert organizers announced that they will issue refunds to the fans.

Mirror, the 12-member band, has skyrocketed in popularity in Hong Kong and been credited with the revival of Cantopop.

Pope Francis hasn't considered retiring, but after his physical struggles on his latest apostolic journey, the pontiff has made clear he reserves the right to step down.

Pope Francis fielded questions from reporters Saturday following his historic visit to Canada to promote fraternity with Catholic indigenous people in the nation. He was forced to conduct the interview from a wheelchair, which he utilized frequently in Canada.

Asked repeatedly by press if he planned on stepping down, the pontiff said he still has not considered retirement, but that Canada was a "test" of his vitality that showed he is slowing down.

"Whatever the Lord says," Pope Francis told a French reporter. "The Lord can tell me to resign. It is the Lord who commands."

POPE SAYS SOCIETY DOES NOT 'KNOW HOW TO LIVE' WITH THE RISING PROPORTION OF ELDERLY CITIZENS

The pontiff reflected, "I think that at my age and with this limitation I have to cut back a little bit to be able to serve the Church or on the contrary think about the possibility of stepping aside,"

The remark is notable as Pope Francis has thus far denied having ever considered retirement — popes traditionally serve until their death on the throne. With Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI still alive and living in a converted monastery within the walls of Vatican City, Pope Francis stepping down would set the stage for three "popes" living in the Vatican at once.

However, Pope Francis appears to be trying to prevent such a situation, continuing in his duties despite needing extensive surgery.

"Knee surgery is not planned in my case. The experts say yes, but there is the whole problem of anesthesia. Ten months ago I underwent more than six hours of anesthesia and there are still traces. You don't play, you don't mess around with anesthesia," the said during the press conference.

POPE FRANCIS DESCRIBES PRESSURES OF THE PAPACY: 'SOMETIMES, YOU FEEL YOU ARE NUMB'

In a meeting last month with over a dozen Catholic bishops visiting the Vatican from Brazil, Pope Francis discussed his health and plans for the future of his reign.

The pope told visiting Archbishop Roque Paloschi that resigning from the Holy See "does not cross his mind," according to the Portuguese edition of the Vatican's official news service.

However, the pope did not feign great health, reportedly telling the bishops that he was facing many challenges, but that he wished to live the life God gave him until the end.

Last July, the pope underwent surgery on his colon and was hospitalized for almost two weeks. Since the operation, the pontiff has regularly complained of knee pain and other side effects that make mobility and physical exertion difficult.

The pope, 85, has revisited the topic of old age and deterioration many times in recent years. His lessons and comments on the reality of growing old — often optimistic in nature — have taken on new potency as the pontiff struggles through a series of health concerns while continuing his physically demanding work.

North Korea on Saturday reported no new fever cases for the first time since it abruptly admitted to its first domestic COVID-19 outbreak and placed its 26 million people under more draconian restrictions in May.

There have been widespread outside doubts about the accuracy of North Korean statistics as its reported fatalities are too low and its daily fever cases have been plummeting too fast recently. Some experts say North Korea has likely manipulated the scale of illness and deaths to help leader Kim Jong Un maintain absolute control amid mounting economic difficulties.

The North’s anti-epidemic center said via state media it had found zero fever patients in the latest 24-hour period, maintaining the country’s total caseload of about 4.8 million. Its death count remains at 74, with a mortality rate of 0.0016% that would be the world’s lowest if true.

Despite the claimed zero cases, it is unclear whether and how soon North Korea would formally declare victory over COVID-19 and lift pandemic-related curbs because experts say it could face a viral resurgence later this year like many other countries. North Korea’s state media has recently said it’s intensifying and upgrading its anti-epidemic systems to guard against coronavirus subvariants and other diseases like monkeypox that are occurring in other countries.

KIM JONG UN STILL NOT READY TO CONDUCT NUCLEAR TEST, EXPERTS SAY

"The organizational power and unity unique to the society of (North Korea) is fully displayed in the struggle to bring forward a victory in the emergency anti-epidemic campaign," the official Korean Central News Agency said Saturday.

North Korea’s claimed zero cases could have symbolic significance in its efforts to establish Kim’s image as a leader who has suppressed the outbreak much faster than other countries. Kim would need such credentials to garner greater public support to surmount economic hardships caused by pandemic-related border closings, U.N. sanctions and his own mismanagement, observers say.

"In North Korea, public healthcare and politics can’t be separated from each other, and that aspect has been revealed again in its COVID-19 outbreak," said Ahn Kyung-su, head of DPRKHEALTH.ORG, a website focusing on health issues in North Korea. "Since they began with manipulated data, they’re now putting an end to the outbreak with manipulated data."

North Korea had been widely expected to claim zero cases as its daily fever caseload has been nosediving in recent days — there were three reported cases on Friday and 11 on Thursday — from a peak of about 400,000 a day in May. The country, which lacks test kits, has identified only a fraction of its 4.8 million fever patients as confirmed COVID-19 cases.

"Realistically speaking, hundreds of thousands of daily fever cases becoming zero in less than three months is something impossible," said Lee Yo Han, a professor at Ajou University Graduate School of Public Health in South Korea.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY DROPS PLAN TO REIMPOSE MASK MANDATE, CITING DECREASE IN COVID CASES

Many outside experts earlier worried the North’s outbreak would have devastating consequences because most of its people are believed to be unvaccinated and about 40% are reportedly undernourished. But now, activists and defectors with contacts in North Korea say they haven’t heard about anything like a humanitarian disaster happening in the North. They say the country’s outbreak has also likely peaked.

In an indication of an easing outbreak, North Korea this week held massive no-mask public events in its capital, Pyongyang, where thousands of aged Korean War veterans and others gathered from across the country to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the end of the 1950-53 war. During an anniversary ceremony, Kim hugged and exchanged handshakes with some veterans before he took group photos with other participants. No one wore masks, according to state media photos.

Shin Young-jeon, a professor of preventive medicine at Seoul’s Hanyang University, said North Korea would know that zero cases don’t mean it has no COVID-19 patients because there are likely asymptomatic cases. He said North Korea won’t likely announce it has officially beaten the pandemic anytime soon because of worries about a resurgence.

"North Korea’s state media has already used expressions like it’s winning its anti-virus fight. The only other expression they can use now is declaring the coronavirus has been completely eliminated from its territory," Shin said. "But if new cases emerge again, North Korea would lose its face."

The only route for North Korea’s fresh viral spread from abroad is likely China, its main ally which shares a long, porous border with the country, and North Korea would likely find it difficult to announce victory over the pandemic until China does so, Lee said.

BA.5 OMICRON VARIANT MAY LEAD TO HIGHER RISK FOR REINFECTION AND SEVERE OUTCOMES, COMPARED TO OTHER VARIANTS

The North Korea-China border has been largely shut for more than 2 ½ years, except for a few months when it reopened earlier this year.

Some observers say the North’s elevated pandemic response has provided Kim with a tool to boost his authoritarian rule amid public complaints over long-running restrictions. They say North Korea could report a small number of fever cases again in the coming days.

Foreign experts struggle to assess the true number of fatalities in North Korea. They note the North’s shortage of test kits would also make it virtually impossible for the country to determine whether aged people or others with underlying diseases died of COVID-19 or something else.

Shin, the university professor, stood by his earlier study that predicted North Korea would likely suffer 100,000-150,000 deaths. He said he used South Korean data showing its mortality rate of unvaccinated people for the omicron variant, whose outbreak North Korea admitted in May, was 0.6%.

Other experts say the North’s fatalities would be several thousand at the maximum. They said bigger death tolls must have been detected by North Korea monitoring groups.

U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Friday there should be no question that Russia is looking to dismantle Ukraine "and dissolve it from the world map entirely."

Speaking to the U.N. Security Council, the ambassador said the U.S. has noticed signs that Russia is preparing to try and annex all the eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

She said Moscow's attempt to do this could include installing "illegitimate proxy officials in Russian-held areas, with the goal of holding sham referenda or decree to join Russia."

Thomas-Greenfield said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov "has even stated that this is Russia’s war aim."

UKRAINE CLAIMS MORE THAN 100 RUSSIAN SOLDIERS KILLED IN FIGHTING IN KHERSON REGION

Lavrov had said Sunday at an Arab summit in Cairo that Moscow’s overarching mission in Ukraine is to free its people from its "unacceptable regime."

"We will certainly help the Ukrainian people to get rid of the regime, which is absolutely anti-people and anti-historical," Lavrov said, appearing to suggest that Russia’s goals for the war go beyond Ukraine’s industrial Donbas region in the east, which consists of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Russian deputy U.N. ambassador Dmitry Polyansky said before the Security Council on Friday that "The de-Nazification and demilitarization of Ukraine will be carried out in full."

"There must no longer be a threat from this stage to Donbas, nor to Russia, nor to the liberated Ukrainian territories where for the first time in several years people are finally able to feel that they can live the way they want," he said.

Polyansky also issued a warning to Western countries supplying Ukraine with long-range artillery and MLRS rockets, saying that they were shifting "the provisional security line" further toward the west.

"And in so doing clarifying even further the aims and objectives of our special military operation," he said.

Thomas-Greenfield also highlighted at the meeting evidence of increased atrocities caused by Russia's war.

She said this includes the reported school and hospital bombings, the "killing of aid workers and journalists, the targeting of civilians attempting to flee, the brutal execution-style murder of those going about their daily business in Bucha," a suburb of Kyiv.

The ambassador said there is evidence that Russian forces "have interrogated, detained forcibly, deported an estimated hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, including children -- tearing them from their homes and sending them to remote regions in the east."

Nearly two million Ukrainian refugees have relocated to Russia, according to both Ukrainian and Russian officials. Ukraine alleges the refugees were forced to transfer to enemy soil, which is considered a war crime. But Russia deems the journeys humanitarian evacuations of war victims who are appreciative of a new place to call home.

"The United Nations has information that officials from Russia’s presidential administration are overseeing and coordinating filtration operations," Thomas-Greenfield told the council.

Polyansky, however, said that Ukrainians "are choosing the country that they trust."

He claimed the heavy artillery supplied to Ukraine "will spill over into Europe" because of "the flourishing corruption among Ukraine’s political and military leadership."

Polyansky said Western weaponry is "dragging out the agony and increasing the suffering of the Ukrainian people."

He told Western ambassadors, "The aims of our special military operation will be achieved either way, however much fuel you pour into the fire in the form of weapons."

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the White House's claim that President Biden addressed "genocide" and "forced labor" on a call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told the press Thursday that the president raised ethical concerns over forced labor and ethnic genocide in China.

The Chinese MFA denied the alleged conversation entirely, saying, "According to White House Press Secretary, ‘genocide' & 'forced labor’ came up in last night’s call between Chinese & US Presidents. That is disinformation."

A similar message was pushed separately in which the MFA called the alleged conversation "pure lies" and "false information."

"Pure lies," MFA spokesperson Lijian Zhao said of the White House's claim. "White House spokesperson said the issues of genocide and forced labor were mentioned in the call last night, that is false information."

China has been accused of wrongfully imprisoning up to 3 million Uyghurs in the Xinjiang region, as well as carrying out forced sterilizations and abortions. Chinese authorities claim camps in the region are "re-education" facilities combating Islamic extremism.

Biden signed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in December, a bipartisan piece of legislation that prevents the importation of goods made via forced labor in the Xinjiang region.

Biden held his longest call with Xi on Thursday morning amid tensions between the two world powers.

According to a Chinese readout of the call, Xi warned Biden against defying Beijing's will on Taiwan.

The call — the fifth between Biden and Xi since Biden took office — began at 8:33 a.m. ET and lasted two hours and 17 minutes, the White House said.

Graphic footage of a bound Ukrainian prisoner being mutilated by a group of Russian soldiers has sparked outrage after a video circulated on social media late Thursday night.

Fox News has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.

According to Ukrainian member of Parliament Inna Sovsun, who posted the footage before her account was suspended, said the video depicted a "Russian soldier from Chechen battalion Ahmat cut[ting] off the genitals of Ukrainian POW."

Several outlets reported that a group of Russian soldiers held down a man wearing Ukrainian fatigues while shouting derogatory language at him.

A boxcutter-like knife was then allegedly used to mutilate the individual.

It is unclear what happened to the apparent Ukrainian soldier after the video ended, but some reports have claimed the man was then killed.

"People should know what Russia is doing," Sovsun said in a Twitter post once her account was back up.

It is unclear when or where the footage was taken.

Assistant foreign editor to "The Times," Maxim Tucker, tweeted Thursday that the video is "genuine" according to the Netherlands-based investigative website Bellingcat.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mikhailo Podolyak took to Twitter to voice his outrage and said, "Russian propagandists were delighted to show how a group of [Russian] inhumans destroyed a captive."

"All the world needs to understand: Russia is a country of cannibals who enjoy torture and murder," he wrote. "But the fog of war will not help to avoid the punishment of the executioners."

Russia has been accused of committing thousands of war crimes and is currently being investigated by several international groups, including the International Criminal Court.

Ukraine is ready to export the first shipment of grains from the Odesa region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday, adding that he is awaiting the "signal" from partners to release the vessels.

"The first vessel, the first ship is being loaded since the beginning of the war. This is a Turkish vessel. This shows that the port has started working," Zelenskyy said during a visit to a port in the Odesa region.

Earlier this week, officials from the U.N., Turkey, Ukraine and Russia were scrambling to finalize details on how to safely transport ships through the Black Sea as Russian forces continue to pummel Ukraine’s coastline.

RUSSIA CLAIMS 40 UKRAINIAN POWS KILLED IN STRIKE WITH US HIMARS, UKRAINE DECRIES 'BRUTAL EXECUTION'

Despite the landmark deal reached between Kyiv and Moscow last week in an attempt to circumvent the global food crisis, Russian forces launched a series of missile strikes on Ukrainian port cities after agreeing to a limited cease fire.

Under the agreement, Russia agreed not to attack Ukrainian naval vessels or port infrastructure as Ukraine attempts to offload 22 million tons of grain to vulnerable and developing nations from Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Yuzhne.

However, Russia hit Odesa in a missile strike Saturday, followed by several attacks just days later in the Odesa-coastal towns of Yuzhne and Zatoka.

"Our side is fully prepared. We sent all the signals to our partners - the UN and Turkey, and our military guarantees the security situation," Zelenskyy said Friday. "The Minister of Infrastructure is in direct contact with the Turkish side and the UN, we are waiting for a signal from them that we can start."

UKRAINE'S COASTLINE HIT AGAIN AS UN PREPS FIRST BLACK SEA EXPORT SHIPMENT OF GRAINS

The U.N. condemned Russia’s repeated strikes over the last week, but officials involved in the Black Sea Grain Initiative pushed forward with the deal. On Wednesday, deputy spokesman for the U.N. Secretary-General Farhan Haq championed the opening of the Joint Coordination Centre in Istanbul.

U.N. officials this week said they were hopeful the first shipment of grain and other food products could leave Ukrainian ports Friday. However, as of Thursday, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said "crucial" details were still being hammered out.

"That is a detailed negotiation based on the agreement," Griffiths told U.N. member states in a Thursday briefing, first reported Reuters. "It's not just a matter of whether there is a ship, or two, or three available in the ports ready to move out.

"They need to move safely and that means that we have to be clear where exactly the channel is," he added.

Senior Ukrainian officials are increasingly concerned about Russian spies lurking in the capital, divulging state secrets and helping target sensitive military and civilian infrastructure, Fox News has learned.

"They will infiltrate the security services," Ihor Zvhokva, a top diplomatic aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, told Fox News. "The armed forces, the intelligence community -- you name it -- with the people, with their agents."

The espionage problem has gotten so bad, Zelenskyy recently fired two top officials, including the head of his security services, over their failure to root out the spies. Today, there are hundreds of active investigations.

"Russia was never, you know, forgetting about this dream for Ukraine to become, again, a part of Russia," Zvhokva said. "In times of war, some of them reveal themselves and some [do] not."

RUSSIA CLAIMS 40 UKRAINIAN POWS KILLED IN STRIKE WITH US HIMARS, UKRAINE DECRIES 'BRUTAL EXECUTION'

"That's why my president will keep fighting with these Russian agents," Zvhokva continued. "The unlawful acts are causing casualties, unfortunately."

During an interview with Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, the former boxing heavyweight champion of the world warned the problem is massive.

"Everywhere, there’s spies," Klitschko said Wednesday. "They give the target and [coordinate] where the Russians send their rockets."

On Thursday, six Russian cruise missiles hit just outside of Kyiv for the first time in weeks.

"Everyone right now in Kyiv and Ukraine is under the danger of air attacks," Klitschko continued. "We need modern weapons, defensive weapons… Right now, it's not enough."

RUSSIAN LOOKS TO ANNEX KHERSON AS UKRAINIAN COUNTER OFFENSIVE ADVANCES

The strikes were among more than two dozen launched into Ukraine from Belarus and the Black Sea. Zvhokva accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of "deliberately" ordering the massive missile barrage as millions celebrated Statehood Day, a new holiday marking the founding of Kyiv as the capital and the birth of Christianity in Ukraine.

In the Kyiv suburb of Irpin, where massive shelling leveled entire neighborhoods during the initial days of the invasion, a local commander who helped repel the Russian advance had a similar warning about Russian espionage.

"Most of them were in Kyiv. Now they are in Irpin, in Bucha -- in any city," Vasyl, a deputy commander of a local militia in Irpin, told Fox News this week.

"They are sabotage teams waiting for Russia's command to harm Ukrainian citizens," said Vasyl, who declined to give his last name due to security reasons. "There are a lot of elderly people and even entire families who don’t seem suspicious at all but are actually saboteurs sending information to the other side."

RUSSIAN FORCES STALLED WITH AID OF US HIMARS, UKRAINE DEFENSE OFFICIAL SAYS SOLDIERS STILL UNDER GUNNED

When asked if the United States was giving Ukraine enough weapons to defeat the other side, Zelenskyy’s aide Zvhokva told Fox News, "If we had enough weaponry to defeat Russia, we would have already defeated them."

Rob Lee, a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and a former U.S. Marine infantryman, told Fox News, "For Ukraine to recapture a sizable amount of territory, short of Russian forces collapsing somewhere along the front, it will need more than just HIMARS," the satellite-guided rocket launchers recently sent to Ukraine and responsible for destroying 100 high-value Russian targets, a senior Biden administration official recently told reporters.

"[Ukraine] needs to have sufficient artillery ammunition to suppress Russian defenses, UAVs to correct artillery, sufficient tanks and armored vehicles, and a large enough ground force with well-trained professional units not just volunteers," Lee added.

Zvhokva’s goal is to defeat Russia completely and get them out of all of Ukraine, not back to where they were on Feb. 23rd before the invasion or even in 2014 following the annexation of Crimea. He wants Ukraine’s borders restored to where they were on Aug. 24, 1991, the day it declared its independence from the Soviet Union.

When asked what message he wanted to send back to Americans, Zvhokva replied, "Are you ready to sacrifice some part of your cozy life in order for evil not to win?"

"If this evil will not be stopped here in Ukraine, it will spread further," said Zvhorkva. "Don't pretend you can hide."

Russia's Defense Ministry on Friday claimed that at least 40 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed after U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) were used by Ukrainian armed forces to strike occupied territory in the Donbas, and hit a Russian detention center.

A Ukrainian defense official denied the claims and told Fox News Digital it was likely a "brutal execution of POWs."

The official said they have "99 percent certainty that this was a Russian strike."

Ukraine’s defense ministry is still collecting information on the incident and the official was unable to verify the number of captive Ukrainian soldiers killed or injured in the strike.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed some 75 Ukrainian soldiers were also injured after a missile strike hit "a pre-trial detention center in the area of the settlement of Olenivka, where Ukrainian military prisoners of war, including fighters from the Azov battalion, are being held."

Russian-backed separatist leader Denis Pushilin reportedly told Interfax that the detention center was located in the frontline town of Olenivka and housed over 190 detainees.

The raging wildfires in California and Texas aren't the only region of the world battling deadly flames.

A large wildfire on the German-Czech Republic border is spreading and threatening to destroy a forested national park popular with tourists.

The fire in the region, called Bohemian Switzerland on the Czech side and the Saxon Switzerland national park on the German side, started last weekend. It had seemed to be under control but spread again early Thursday, German news agency DPA reported.

Hundreds of firefighters on both sides of the border battled the flames with help from reinforcements from neighboring Poland and Slovakia. Eight firefighting helicopters were working to douse the flames in the hilly and rocky region that is difficult to access and where about 250 hectares (618 acres) of forest were burning Thursday.

Local authorities warned tourists to stay away from the area.

Photos from a local photographer show the devastation that had already been wrought -

Saxony state officials banned hikers from entering several forests in the region. To prevent additional blazes, they also asked local residents not to set off fireworks at private parties.

"It's all very tense. We can by no means speak of an easing" of the fire yet; "firefighters have reached the limits of their capabilities," Saxony Interior Minister Armin Schuster said.

Excalibur Army, a Czech company involved in rescue work and military involvement tweeted out its involvement, "TRITON the special vehicle, developed by EXCALIBUR ARMY for fire rescue forces has being deployed to fight with the fire in Bohemian Switzerland in Czech republic. We wish @hasici_cr good luck and above all, lots of strength!"

The nonprofit rescue organization, Fire International Disaster Response Germany also reported from the scene "#Saxony: Our mission in the #SaxonSwiss National Park continued today. Together with the local authorities and organizations, attempts are still being made to contain the extensive #forestfire, which is made more difficult by the difficult geographical conditions"

However, amid the carnage, was a sign of hope. The Fire Rescue services of the Czech Republic tweeted out video that the famous Pravčická brana still stands.

Another large forest fire in the Elbe-Elster district of the eastern German state of Brandenburg was under control Thursday after flaring up again on Wednesday evening, local authorities said. The fire was still burning an area of 500 hectares (1,236 acres).

A police helicopter scouted the area with a thermal camera to look for pockets of embers that could ignite into flames. Some areas are contaminated with World War II ammunition and are too dangerous for firefighters to enter because the heat or human contact could cause explosions.

Germany's army has sent several military helicopters to both fires to support local units.

Abdulla Al Khalifa, undersecretary for political affairs of Bahrain, insisted that Iran has not acted as a "responsible" neighbor and threatens the stability of the Middle East as it continues to act "with impunity."

"Iran has been acting with impunity for the past 40 years," Khalifa told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the Aspen Security Forum last week. "My country, Bahrain, has been part of Iran's continuous interference in their neighbors’ affairs."

"We do believe that Iran is an important neighbor in the region but a responsible Iran that would respect the borders of its neighbors, that would refrain from developing its nuclear and ballistic capabilities, and that would refrain from supporting terrorism and extremism," he added.

Khalifa previously discussed concerns over Iran’s ambition to achieve a nuclear weapon even though it will affect neighboring countries "in a very dramatic way."

RUSSIA, IRAN AGREE TO NEW PLANE SUPPLIES DEAL, PLAN TO INCREASE FLIGHTS BETWEEN COUNTRIES: REPORT

But a potential nuclear weapon is just one of many destabilizing activities with which Iran engages as it continues to cause problems in the region: Khalifa highlighted Tehran’s penchant for developing and funding proxies in neighboring countries, including the Houthis, who operate in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

"It's nothing new that Iran is doing," Khalifa insisted, pointing to the 1981 coup attempt by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against Bahrain, which Iran has consistently denied funding but Bahrain continues to attribute to Tehran.

He backed the Iran nuclear deal that President Biden has tried to resurrect, calling it "the critical portfolio" that could help address "the common threat that all of us view."

SECURITY EXPERTS CALL IRAN AN ‘EXISTENTIAL THREAT’ TO MIDDLE EAST, ‘SKEPTICAL’ ABOUT NUCLEAR DEAL SUCCESS

"Oct. 9, 2006, the world woke up to the news that North Korea tested its first nuclear weapon. It was the reality," Khalifa said. "Until now, the world is facing its consequences."

"What if one day we all wake up to the news that Iran has tested its first nuclear weapon? What will happen next?" he said.

Another key piece in that security strategy rests in the Abraham Accords, which Bahrain moved to sign after Israel and United Arab Emirates initially signed after negotiations led by the Trump administration.

NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERTS WARN OF ISIS BREEDING GROUND IN SYRIA CAMP

Khalifa praised the agreement as another instance of the long-standing relationship between the U.S. and Bahrain — one that has led to improved relations with other countries in the region.

"Having the United States as an advocate to not only put the Abraham Accords together but to bring Bahrain to sign the establishment of joint bilateral relations with Israel is a matter that we appreciate very much with the United States," he said.

"We believe those who have relations with Israel would enhance a resolution to the conflict, and we believe having a two-state solution whereby the Palestinians will have their own independent state with east Jerusalem as its capital is the way forward."

Ukraine has made it clear that it intends to take back Kherson, a Russian-occupied city in the south, as its counter-offensive gains momentum. That's according to a Thursday update from British defense and intelligence officials.

Ukraine's efforts have virtually cut off Kherson and left thousands of Russian troops stationed near the Dnipro River "highly vulnerable."

Britain's Defence Ministry said Ukrainian forces have probably established a bridgehead south of the Ingulets River, and had used new, long-range artillery to damage at least three of the bridges crossing the Dnipro.

"Russia's 49th Army, stationed on the west bank of the Dnipro River, now looks highly vulnerable," it said in a regular intelligence bulletin on Twitter, adding that Kherson was virtually cut off from the other territories occupied by Russia.

THE UKRAINE WAR SHOCKED THE WORLD. WE MUST ACT NOW TO PREVENT THE NEXT ONE IN ASIA

The update continued: "Its loss would severely undermine Russia's attempts to paint the occupation as a success."

Ukraine has indicated that Russia has recently made a shift from attack to defense by redeploying troops from the east to the south.

A massive, 170-carat pink diamond that was found in Angola is reportedly the largest diamond to be found in 300 years

Called the "Lulo Rose" the diamond was discovered in a river bed by the Lulo alluvial diamond mine on Wednesday. The diamond mine is owned by the Lucapa Diamond Company.

The rarity of the size and color of the diamond makes the stone valuable, but it's unclear how much it would be sold for because of its color.

"Only one in 10,000 diamonds is colored pink. So you’re certainly looking at a very rare article when you find a very large pink diamond," Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall told The Associated Press.

The company is searching for the main source of the diamonds, Wetherall said in a press release. Lulo is an alluvial mine, which means the stones are recovered from a river bed.

"We’re looking for the kimberlite pipes that brought these diamonds to the surface," Wetherall said. "When you find these high-value large diamonds ... it certainly elevates the excitement from our perspective in our hunt for the primary source."

About 400 people are employed at the Lulo mine, and they are responsible for discovering the two largest diamonds in the country, including a 404-carat clear diamond.

The pink gem is the fifth-largest diamond discovered by the company, which has uncovered 27 stones that are over 100 carats.

SERIES OF LIGHTNING STRIKES ACROSS INDIA KILLS 20 PEOPLE

The pink diamond will be sold by international tender by the Angolan state diamond marketing company, Sodiam. Angola’s mines make it one of the world’s top 10 producers of diamonds.

"This record and spectacular pink diamond recovered from Lulo continues to showcase Angola as an important player on the world stage for diamond mining and demonstrates the potential and rewards for commitment and investment in our growing diamond mining industry," Diamantino Azevedo, Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas said, according to the Lucapa website.

The pink diamond is an impressive size, but many clear diamonds are larger than 1,000 carats. The Cullinan diamond found in South Africa in 1905 tips the scales at 3,106 carats, and it’s in the British Sovereign’s Scepter.

Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer known as the "Merchant of Death" whose weapons sales fueled deadly conflicts around the world, could be sent back to his motherland in exchange for WNBA star Brittney Griner and retired U.S. Marine Paul Whelan.

Russian officials have long pushed for the release of Bout, who is currently serving a 25-year sentence in U.S. prison after being convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to kill Americans, conspiracy to deliver anti-aircraft missiles, and aiding a terrorist organization.

He was nabbed in 2008 in a sting operation at a luxury hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, where he met with Drug Enforcement Administration informants who were posing as officials with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which has been classified by US officials as a narco-terrorist group.

Prosecutors said that Bout was prepared to provide the group with $20 million worth of "a breathtaking arsenal of weapons — including hundreds of surface-to-air missiles, machine guns and sniper rifles — 10 million rounds of ammunition and five tons of plastic explosives."

BRITTNEY GRINER REVEALS TRANSLATION ISSUE DURING HER FEBRUARY ARREST

Bout, who was played by Nicolas Cage in the 2005 movie "Lord of War," has maintained his innocence, claiming that he is a legitimate businessman.

The Russian state-owned news agency TASS originally reported in May that talks are underway to exchange Bout for Griner.

Russian officials see Bout as a "high-value asset" and are likely pushing hard for the exchange, according to former Defense Intelligence Agency officer Rebekah Koffler.

"Moscow wants him back because he possesses critical insights that he can share with the GRU, his former agency. Having been in a U.S. prison and interrogated by U.S. officials, he knows what our intelligence requirements are and other information that is valuable for the Russians," Koffler, the author of "Putin's Playbook: Russia's Secret Plan to Defeat America," told Fox News Digital.

"It would be a big mistake for the U.S. to give up Viktor Bout, as much as one feels compassion for Ms. Griner and Mr. Whelan."

BRITTNEY GRINER GUILTY PLEA POSSIBLE 'GAMBLE' TO SPEED UP RUSSIA EXIT: EXPERT

The Biden administration confirmed Wednesday that it has made a "substantial proposal" to help free Griner and Whelan.

"The U.S. government continues to work aggressively, pursuing every avenue, to make that happen and as part of those efforts we made a substantial proposal to bring Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan home," a White House spokesperson told Fox News on Wednesday.

Griner was arrested at a Russian airport in mid-February after police said they found cannabis oil in her bags. She pleaded guilty this month to a drug smuggling charge and could face up to 10 years in prison, but she has said that her "intent" was not to violate Russian law.

Whelan was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2020 on espionage charges, but he and his family have maintained his innocence, while the U.S. government has called the charges false.

A series of lightning strikes in the eastern Indian state of Bihar has killed 20 people in less than 24 hours as more extreme weather is expected in the coming days.

Forecasts show that thunderstorms are expected to continue in the north part of the state on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the BBC. Deadly lightning strikes originating from monsoon rains kill hundreds in India every year, with more than 3,000 dying in 2019, as reported by The Times of India. The deaths were reported across 8 districts within Bihar.

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, has called on citizens to follow the state's safety procedures to avoid injury or death while vowing to provide compensation to the victim's families.

"Follow the advisory issued by the disaster management department from time to time for being safe during lightning. Stay indoors and safe during bad weather," Nitish said in a statement on Tuesday. Experts noted that the state's geographical location makes it easy for lightning strikes to occur during monsoon storms.

BONNIE STRENGTHENS INTO MAJOR HURRICANE OFF OF MEXICO

Kumar said each of the victim's families in Bihar will receive a compensation of 400,000 rupees, which is equivalent to $5,000. Earlier on July 24th, the chief minister warned about the deadly potential of these storms and asked officials to install lightning arrests in schools, hospitals, and government buildings.

One of the main contributing factors to India's growing deaths from extreme weather is the high number of people who work outdoors in rural and urban areas.

SCIENTISTS THINK 2020 LOCKDOWNS MAY HAVE CAUSED LESS LIGHTNING

Lightning strikes rose by 34%, with more than 18 million strikes occurring in India from April 2020 to March 2021, according to a study by the Climate Resilient Observing System Promotion Council.

The BBC notes that India's increase in lightning strikes is also shown via satellite data from 1995 to 2014.

Iran will start to supply aircraft parts and equipment to Russia and service Russian aircraft in a new agreement signed between the two countries.

Western nations and their allies moved to isolate Moscow after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine. Russia looked to other rogue nations, including Iran, to help circumvent the sanctions and ride out the immediate economic impact.

China and India purchased Russian energy in the run-up to the invasion, and China made some key trade deals with its northern neighbor. Iran has stepped in to sign an agreement that will provide Russia more flight options and airplane assistance in the near term, according to The Moscow Times, citing the Mehr agency.

The agreement includes a pledge to increase flights between the two nations up to 35 per week – a significant boost when only about 19 countries or states provide direct flight access to Russia.

US HIGHLIGHTS ADVANTAGES OF NUCLEAR DEAL, BUT ACKNOWLEDGES STALL WITH IRAN

Even those nations have advised that passengers face the risk of lawsuits in countries considered "friendly" with Russia. Western nations ordered the termination of Russian carrier contracts during the earliest phase of sanctions.

The deal follows an agreement between Tehran and Moscow to supply Russian forces with drones so that the Kremlin can sustain its war offensive, which shifted from a broad attack and attempt to conquer the whole of Ukraine to focus only on the eastern Donbas region.

CHEAP DRONES AND COUNTERMEASURES: WHAT WORRIES EXPERTS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF WARFARE

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan disclosed that intelligence agencies had obtained information that indicated Tehran would supply Moscow with drones, as well as training the troops in their use.

"Our information indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs on an expedited timeline," Sullivan told reporters in the White House briefing room.

"It’s unclear whether Iran has delivered any of these UAVs to Russia already," Sullivan said, "but this is just one example of how Russia is looking to countries like Iran for capabilities."

A top Chinese official is warning of "serious consequences" if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits the island nation of Taiwan which China has long insisted is not an independent state but rather part of China.

"The US will be responsible for all of the serious consequences," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said about the potential visit, Sky News reported on Wednesday

Lijian added that there will be "firm and resolute measures" in reaction to Pelosi’s trip.

Pelosi was planning to visit Taiwan in April, which would have made her the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit the island since 1997, but was forced to cancel the trip after testing positive for the coronavirus.

TAIWAN HOLDS AIR RAID DRILLS AS CHINA DOUBLES DOWN AGAINST NANCY PELOSI VISIT

Pelosi has not officially rescheduled the trip, but rumors circulated she still intends on going after saying last week that it is "important for us to show support for Taiwan."

"We do not confirm or deny international travel in advance due to longstanding security protocols," a Pelosi spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Wednesday morning.

BIDEN STOPPING PELOSI'S TAIWAN VISIT WOULD CREATE A 'MAJOR FOREIGN POLICY CRISIS,' SEN. COTTON SAYS

U.S. officials say they have little fear that China would attack Nancy Pelosi’s plane if she flies to Taiwan. But Pelosi would be entering one of the world’s hottest spots, where a mishap, misstep or misunderstanding could endanger her safety. So the Pentagon is developing plans for any contingency.

Chinese officials told The Associated Press that if Pelosi goes to Taiwan, the military would increase its movement of forces and assets in the Indo-Pacific region. They declined to provide details, but said that fighter jets, ships, surveillance assets and other military systems would likely be used to provide overlapping rings of protection for her flight to Taiwan and any time on the ground there.

PELOSI SHOULD GO TO TAIWAN, BE 'FORCEFUL' ON US COMMITMENT: DAN HOFFMAN

Asked about planned military steps to protect Pelosi in the event of a visit, U.S. Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Wednesday that discussion of any specific travel is premature. But, he added, "if there’s a decision made that Speaker Pelosi or anyone else is going to travel and they asked for military support, we will do what is necessary to ensure a safe conduct of their visit. And I’ll just leave it at that."

President Biden, who is scheduled to speak on the phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping within the next 10 days, told reporters last week that the U.S. military believes the trip is "not a good idea."

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

EXCLUSIVE: The ghosts of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s brutal past have emerged amid his deadly war in Ukraine as a group of Chechen fighters now looks to establish their own stake in the fight.

"This is a repetition of the tragedy in Chechnya," Islam Belokiev, spokesman for the Sheikh Mansur Battalion, told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview. "In every Ukrainian today, I see that Chechen woman, Chechen man, Chechen children."

Belokiev, born in 1989, grew up amid a series of brutal civil wars in one of Russia’s most southern republics and recalled the destruction he and the children of his generation knew until he left Chechnya in 2004.

PUTIN FACES SECOND WAR FRONT AS CHECHENS THREATEN NEW OFFENSIVE IN RUSSIA

"When I was coming here from Poland, I saw a group of children from an orphanage who were crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border. This moved me very much," he said in an interview translated with the help of the Ukrainian Frontline Media Platform. "And then I remembered those children who also fled from Chechnya and were looking for some kind of safe haven."

Back-to-back wars broke out in Chechnya after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, followed by a push for independence from Moscow by the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.

Chechen resistance to Russian rule dates back centuries and a deadly war raged from 1994 to 1996 before a peace treaty was signed by then-Russian President Boris Yeltsin and broad autonomy was granted.

But by 1999, Putin, after taking up the post as Russian prime minster, voided the treaty and launched a decades-long military campaign in the southern republic.

An estimated 160,000 civilians were killed in both campaigns, though exact figures remain unclear and Belokiev said Chechen resistance fighters believe the number of causalities from both wars to be closer to 300,000.

"We are a small [region]," he said, noting that no one went unharmed during the decades of war with Moscow. "We, practically, do not have a single family where there is no one who died or did not take part.

"This is a repetition of that tragedy," he said in reference to Putin’s "special military operation" in Ukraine. "And therefore, I consider it my duty to be here."

RUSSIA USING 85% OF FIGHTING FORCE IN UKRAINE: SENIOR US DEFENSE OFFICIAL

The volunteer battalion has been in Ukraine since 2014 and Belokiev joined the fight following Russia’s second invasion in February.

The Chechen battalion, which allegedly has as many as 800 volunteer soldiers, has said it has a plot to use Putin’s latest war to its advantage.

"Russia is brandishing a nuclear baton and threatening the whole world with it," Belokiev said. "And Chechnya, in fact, the entire North Caucasus, is the Achilles' heel of the Russian Federation."

The battalion’s spokesman argued that Chechnya is already Russia’s "weak point" and it behooves Ukraine and Western nations to throw their weight behind the resistance amid Putin’s war.

"If Chechnya becomes independent today and the Chechens are able to defend their freedom, this will weaken Russia," he claimed.

BELARUSIAN COMMANDER IN UKRAINE SAYS 'MATTER OF TIME' BEFORE HE HAS TO FIGHT HIS OWN COUNTRY IN RUSSIA'S WAR

Belokiev announced a plan last week that could force Russia to divert forces from Ukraine by launching a new offensive in Chechnya – creating a second war front for Putin to grapple with.

But there is a major caveat that the spokesman admitted has fallen on "deaf" government ears – the Chechen resistance forces want "political, military and informational support" from developed nations.

"We know where bases are located, how many people are there, routes and so on," he said, explaining they have been working with locals to identify troop movements to form their strategy. "We need weapons with which we can fight."

The group is also calling for "political support" and the "recognition of political sovereignty and the independence of the Republic of Ichkeria" – which refers to the secessionist government in Chechnya.

"If Russia has the audacity to recognize the illegitimate Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) and seize the territories of other countries, then Ukraine has every right – and I consider it politically expedient – to recognize a legitimate Republic of Ichkeria," he added.

Belokiev, whose family went into hiding following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, said the battalion is already in talks with officials from the Ukrainian government and security services, though Fox News could not independently verify this.

Despite Belokiev's determination to reignite the fight for independence by relying on local populations, one expert thinks this will be easier said than done.

Theodore Karasik, who reported on the Chechen wars in the '90s and serves as a fellow specializing in Russian and Middle Eastern Affairs with the Jamestown Foundation, said resistance fighters will be hard-pressed to find widespread dissent in Chechnya against the current leader, Ramzan Kadyrov.

"After Russia conquered Grozny – in the matter that it does, through meat-grinder warfare – [Moscow was] able to come to a deal with the Kadyrov clan," he explained. "Kadyrov has controlled the republic for years, and any vestige of this type of thinking was long ago cast away."

Karasik explained that following the war, the Putin-backed Chechen leadership brutally cracked down on dissent in an attempt to stamp out calls for independence and told Fox News Digital, "You still find police wrapping people up" who oppose Moscow rule.

The Chechen fighter said he and his battalion will keep defending Ukrainian sovereignty for as long as it takes, but they maintain hope that one day soon they will also be fighting for Chechen independence.

Ukrainian forces took out a key bridge in Kherson, defense officials said Wednesday, "destroying" Russia’s plans as it looks to advance its troops in the south.

Head of the joint coordination press center for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Natalia Humeniuk, said that high precision strikes had hit the Antonovsky Bridge in an attempt to control Russian logistical and transportation routes, Ukrainian news outlets first reported.

RUSSIAN FORCES STALLED WITH AID OF US HIMARS, UKRAINE DEFENSE OFFICIAL SAYS SOLDIERS STILL UNDER GUNNED

When pressed about the implications of Kyiv targeting its own infrastructure, Humeniuk told reporters, "We are not destroying infrastructure, we are destroying the enemy’s plans."

The bridge, which crosses the Dnieper River, has become a major strategic target for Ukrainian defense forces in recent weeks as they look sever access between the Russian army in Kherson to occupied areas off of the Crimean Peninsula.

It is unclear what weapon was used to target the bridge but comes as Ukraine has stalled Russian forces along the front lines with the aid of U.S. supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).

US HIMARS PLAY MAJOR ROLE IN UKRAINE BATTLE FOR KHERSON, HEAVY FIGHTING OVER CRITICAL BRIDGE

The bridge was damaged last week as Ukrainian forces sought to staunch Moscow’s logistical corridor, though U.K. defense officials said they believed that as of Friday Russian forces had been able to repair it enough to get "some traffic" through.

Posts to Telegram surfaced Tuesday night suggesting there were explosions targeting the Antonovsky Bridge and Kyrylo Stremousov, who has been described as a "collaborator" for Russia, reported there was damage to the thoroughfare following a series of strikes by Ukrainian forces, according to Pravda.

"The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on preventing the advance of our troops," Ukrainian Defense officials said in an operational updated Wednesday. "The enemy actively uses UAVs for aerial reconnaissance."

Ukrainian officials said Wednesday that German Mars II rocket systems and three more self-propelled PzH 2000 howitzers had been delivered to Ukraine.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with Ukrainian Minister of Defense Oleksii Rezniko Tuesday about Washington’s recent commitment to sending additional HIMARS.

Ukrainian defense officials confirmed for Fox News Digital that Russian forces have remained stalled on the front lines for two weeks following the successful deployment of HIMARS.

However, Rezniko has warned that Ukrainian forces will need at least 50 systems like the HIMARS to "hold back" Russian forces and at least 100 systems "for an effective counter-offensive."

The United States military is making preparations ahead of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's planned visit to Taiwan.

While the speaker's trip to the nation of Taiwan remains unconfirmed and without a hard timeframe, Chinese officials have already taken issue with the idea.

The U.S. military is prepared for every contingency and would increase its movement of forces and assets in the Indo-Pacific region.

Officials told The Associated Press that fighter jets, ships, surveillance assets and other military systems would likely be used to provide overlapping rings of protection for her flight to Taiwan and any time on the ground there.

China's government warned last week it would take "forceful measures" if Pelosi visited Taiwan after the Financial Times reported she would travel to the Chinese-claimed island nation next month.

FORMER CHINESE STATE MEDIA EDITOR SUGGESTS NANCY PELOSI BE 'RESTRAINED,' 'PUNISHED' BY CCP FOR VISITING TAIWAN

The island of Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, is just off the coast of Asia's mainland. Taiwan has declared itself independent of the People's Republic of China and has claimed continuation of governance from pre-revolutionary China.

The People's Republic of China has long claimed sovereignty over Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait, the relatively narrow strip of ocean between the island of Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. The Chinese military has frequently sent planes into the area, testing Taiwan's air defense zone.

The United States does not have official relations with Taiwan but has been stepping up engagement with the island as China seeks to isolate it from global institutions.

The former chief editor of the Chinese Communist Party's state tabloid, the Global Times, suggested the country detain and punish Pelosi for visiting Taiwan.

Pelosi and her delegation would also visit Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore and spend time in Hawaii at the headquarters of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the London paper added, citing people familiar with the matter.

"The question of Taiwan is the most sensitive, important core issue in China-U.S. relations," Ambassador Qin Gang said at the Aspen Security Forum. "China loves the peace people on both sides of Taiwan Strait. Our compatriots.

The Aspen Security Forum fireside chat focused on the elevated tensions over the past two years between the U.S. and China over Taiwan, particularly with an increase in high-level U.S. visits to Taipei and more Chinese military flights and exercises around Taiwan’s space.
